The Nook
The Nook, located on the 6th floor of HCAD, provides a unique and welcoming space for users of the building to relax, socialize, and enjoy meals in a comfortable, informal setting. It serves as a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of studio work, offering a tranquil environment where individuals can unwind or gather with colleagues and friends. The design of the space blends artistic flair with practical functionality, creating a perfect balance of form and comfort.
The Details
Above the table and seating area, the arch provides a feeling of comfort. This arch, designed with a series of boho-inspired patterns, is stitched together in a patchwork design. The patterns are not only visually engaging but are also held in place by PEX tubing that runs along the underside, providing structural integrity while maintaining a light and airy feel.
The centerpiece of The Nook is the "floating" table, which is suspended from the balusters of the staircase above. Its suspension is achieved through the use of manila rope, which is securely tied at each of the four corners using a traditional bowline knot. This not only ensures the table's stability but also lends a rustic feel that ties back to the overall bohemian feel of the space.
The floor cushions, hand-sewn by us, offer comfort and style with their plush, yet supportive structure. The wooden accents also add a natural touch to the space, complementing the boho patterns of the arch and bringing warmth to the overall design.
